Adult Learners' Week, which takes place every year in May, is the key national campaign to highlight the successes and excellence of adult learners and the organisations that support them.
2005 award nomination forms for Adult Learners are now available at the NIACE Website www.alw.org.uk (external link, will open in a new window).
You need to print off the completed application and send it direct to NIACE by post.
If you are entering any of your students for these awards or are planning any events for this week then please let Kevin Spencer in Corporate Communications know as he is the University's co-ordinator for Adult Learners Week.

The revised Chancellor's Awards for Distinguished Teaching will be launched this semester.
Staff who are interested in applying and who would also wish to be nominated by the University for a National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) should contact Professor Peter Hartley in TQEG as soon as possible.

Due to obtaining a new fax machine in Student Registry, we have two Canon BX-3 BJ fax cartridges for sale, normally costing £17.64 plus VAT each. If any colleagues would find these of use in their own department and would like to make a saving we are selling them at £20 for both.

Details of the Work: Demolition of Tumbling Hill Street Annex. It is anticipated that work will commence on 17th January 2005 and that it will be completed in approximately 3 weeks after that date.

Techniques and insights that enable managers to be more effective coaches.
Springboard
Reunion - Monday 24 January 2005, 10.00-13.00
Target Audience: Previous Springboard Women's Development course participants
An opportunity to discuss the progress you, and others, have made; or
to gain advice from the tutor or from your Springboard colleagues on where
to go next.
Disability
Issues - Friday 28 January 2005, 09.00-16.30
Target Audience: Essential for staff recruiting for the University, but
also open other members of staff. Raises awareness of the employment issues
for staff who recruit on behalf of the University, but also for staff
who wish to understand the implications of Disability issues on their
work.
Financial
Transactions - Wednesday 2 February 2005, 09.00-12.00
Target Audience: Support staff who deal with financial transactions within
Planning Units and admin departments on a regular basis. Prerequisites:
University Staff Only Provides information that will help staff to understand
the University's financial processing system.
Committee
Support - Friday 4 February 2005, 09.00-12.30
Target Audience: Committee Secretaries Aims to clarify the actions of
the administrator/secretary involved in committee servicing and to look
at the processes involved.
(NB There is an optional follow-on session in the afternoon for Minute
Writing and Taking - see below)
Minute
Writing and Taking - Friday 4 February 2005, 13.30-16.45
Target Audience: Staff who wish to learn about the University and College
conventions for minutes at meetings. This 1/2 day course aims to provide
you with some tips on minute taking and a framework for producing them
based on the College and University minute-writing formats.
(NB Staff who service Committees may also wish to book a place at
the morning 'Committee Support' session - see above)
