New. Telephony Software Upgrade

A major upgrade to the University telephone system will take place, commencing Friday evening 16th December 2005. The system will go down at 5pm for approximately 5 hours; no incoming or outgoing calls will be possible during this time and the voicemail service will also be unavailable. Security Services will be provided with corporate mobiles for emergency use during this period - the mobile numbers will be advertised in the immediate run up to the upgrade weekend. Saturday 17th December will be reserved for testing; the system will be up and running but may well have short periods of downtime during the day as we test a variety of telephony functions. First business day in service will be Monday 19th December, when telephone engineers will be on site to resolve any problems that were not immediately apparent over the weekend - please report any faults to ICT Servicedesk on ext: 3333 or email ictservicedesk@bradford.ac.uk

As part of the upgrade process, all telephony data will be backed up (and frozen) on Monday 5th December. Please note, only imperative moves, changes and additions to the telephone system will take place during the fortnight thereafter. The backup data will be reloaded on Saturday 17th December.

IF YOU BELIEVE YOUR PLANNING UNIT/DEPARTMENT WILL REQUIRE NEW EXTENSIONS, MOVES OR CHANGES DURING THIS TIME, PLEASE CONTACT ICT SERVICEDESK IMMEDIATELY ON EXT 3333 OR EMAIL ICTSERVICEDESK@BRADFORD.AC.UK

With regard to voicemail, there is a risk that any saved messages may well be lost during the upgrade process. We advise all voicemail users to make a written note of any important messages prior to 5pm on Friday 16th December.

A reminder email, including emergency mobile numbers will be sent out week commencing 12.12.05.

With apologies in advance for any inconvenience caused.

Telecoms & Network Support Manager

New. Code of Practice - Web based materials

The Information Strategy Sub-Committee recently approved the Code of Practice - Web based materials recommended by the World Wide Web Advisory Board. This reflects the University's legal responsibility to do all it can to make online information accessible and has been renamed to accommodate the increasing number of Word, PDF and other document formats being distributed via the Web or Blackboard. It has implications, therefore, for everyone who produces information that is ultimately made available in these ways. Non-compliance is deemed to be in breach of University Regulation 21; however, discussion, appropriate support and guidance, and opportunity to rectify short-comings will be offered prior to the commencement of any disciplinary proceedings.

The full Code of Practice and summary of key points are available from http://www.bradford.ac.uk/webid/

Training and support in meeting the requirements of the Code of Practice is available from Learning Support Services. For further advice, please contact Ruth Whitfield, Web Administrator, ext 3336, email r.whitfield@bradford.ac.uk
