The purpose of the programme is to provide an insight into the critical factors related to achieving excellence and to highlight through practical examples how various elements of organisational excellence can effectively be put to work. The programme is designed so as to enable organisations to build and sustain excellence. It has been specifically designed to provide practising managers and MBA students alike to be exposed to Best Practice thinking, and innovative applications that lead ultimately to credible performance outcomes. Last year's programme (Excellence 002) proved to be so popular that we have been asked to continue the series.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Hoshin Planning in Business Strategy
  • Sustainable Competitive Advantage
  • Building Excellence in Value Chains
  • Sustainable Performance in Healthcare
  • Employee Empowerment
  • Culture of Learning & Innovation
  • Community & Society Based Performance
  • Sustainable Business Performance

The fundamentals of excellence are presented through 8 carefully designed presentations to be conducted by experienced practicioners who are also internationally respected speakers. Collectively, the selection put together can act as a roadmap for small and large organisations both in the public and private sectors. It can also provide great insights into world class best practice management, effective techniques and first hand knowledge on modern tools, methodologies and innovative credible approaches that provide positive results if properly applied.

New.Iraq Humanitarian Crisi Appeal - message from UNISON

The Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement have launched an urgent appeal to raise money for those effected by the current crisis in Iraq. Lack of clean water, sanitation and food aid as well as the after effects of bombing and ground fighting in the country are already taking a devastating toll on the civilian population. The Red Cross have warned that hospitals are 'pushed to the limit' with casualties in Baghdad coming in at the rate of 100 an hour and staff working day and night.

The Red Cross is working in Iraq in an effort to ensure medical supplies and key services are maintained at hospitals as well as working to return the water supply to affected areas. They have already been instrumental in restoring the water supply to parts of the city of Basra. Please help to support their work to help relieve some of the human suffering.

If you are willing to have a collection box in your department/area of work please contact Dominic Linley (UNISON International Officer) on ext 4991 or D.P.Linley1@bradford.ac.uk.

Alternatively you can make Credit Card donations by calling 08705 125 125.

Further details of the Red Cross' work is available from their website at http://www.redcross.org.uk/iraqcrisis

This appeal is supported by Bradford University UNISON branch.

New.Bradford College Modules

The procedures for the introduction of new modules and the amendment of existing modules delivered by Bradford College, which form part of University of Bradford degree courses, have changed.

The University must ensure that the information that appears on the Module Catalogue reflects the actual delivery of material at the College. In order to achieve this colleagues in Schools will no longer be required to submit new Bradford College modules, or make amendments to existing modules via ModCat.

New and amended College modules which form part of a detailed new course proposal should be submitted in hard copy to ASSU as part of the course proposal to be presented to CART. On approval of the course proposal ASSU will arrange for the modules to be loaded to the Module Catalogue via ModCat.

Amendments to existing modules subsequently approved via the College's quality processes should be submitted to the Collaborative Office in the Academic Standards and Support Unit for entry to the Module Catalogue. Colleagues in Schools should ask their College contacts to submit module amendments to the University via the Academic Standards Unit at Bradford College who will in turn liase directly with the University Collaborative Office.

If you have any queries regarding this new procedure please contact Amanda Huggon (ext: 3027) or Allison Campbell (ext: 5325) in the Academic Standards and Support Unit (http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/acsec/).

New.Change in Procedures for the Approval of Special Examination Arrangements for Students with Disabilities

The following new procedures were approved by the Senate at its meeting of the 2nd April 2003 and will take effect immediately.

The Disabilities Office, acting under delegated authority from the Senate, will approve recommendations arising from the assessment of educational and technical support in respect of individual students and will submit them directly to the Examinations Office in order that the examination arrangements can be made. The educational psychologist's report or other appropriate medical evidence will be submitted to the student's home department for information together with a covering memo confirming the arrangements to be made on behalf of the student. The Examinations Office and the departments need seek no further approval for the arrangements.

Should the nature of the student's disability require action on the part of the Department, for example the provision of a computer or the allocation of a separate room, the Disabilities Office will make this clear to the department in a covering memo.
