Launch of Academic Women's Network

Women are invited to attend a lunch and discussion at the launch of the University's academic women's network. The idea is based on Northern LAWN, and is supported by Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Chair of the Equal Opportunities Commission Professor Grace Alderson, who will attend the discussion. Northern LAWN (Local Academic Women's Network) was set up in 1999 by a group of women academics across northern higher education institutions in Bradford, Manchester and Leeds.

The Bradford launch will take place in Mezz 7 Common Room, Graduate School, on Wednesday, January, 15th, from 12.30pm until 2pm.

For further information or to book a place contact Axèle Giroud at a.l.a.giroud@bradford.ac.uk.

Note:

Northern LAWN is a network of support and shared research interest for female researchers and lecturers in the SET and business environment. It was established by, and for the benefit of new or rising women academics who, with the help of more other colleagues, seek to develop and enhance their careers within these predominately male-dominated areas of academia and industry.

For further information about Northern LAWN, consult http://lubswww.leeds.ac.uk/LAWNnes/

    Tutor: David Williamson

Change or die - like many public organisations, Higher Education is being asked to continually change. For some this means moving out of the comfort zone whilst others openly embrace the change. This session will look at how we might manage change and be asking why some change projects succeed or fail. An interactive session lasting approximately half a day.

  • Introduction to Consultancy - 16 January 2003 10.00 - 1.00 pm
Tutors: John Dennis, Malcolm Purdie and Pete Sayers

This introductory session includes input on the role and context of consultancy for academic staff including the financial management, professional indemnity insurance and other practical support. It has been created for members of staff who wish to enhance their skills in managing external contracts and is strongly focused on what you need to do to win and maintain consultancy contracts.

Successful consultancy business will help you to:

  • Create a new income stream for yourself, your department and the University.
  • Enhance teaching and research by providing you with new case studies and data sets
  • Increase your profile and that of the University.
  • Keep you up to date with industry and in touch with practitioners.
