Revised Chancellor's Award for Distinguished Teaching
Lecturing, teaching and support staff can now apply for the revised
individual awards. Successful applicants will receive an individual salary
increment, £5,000 to spend upon a learning/teaching project, and
will be considered for nomination to the National Teaching Fellowship
Scheme (NTFS).
As we are using the NTFS criteria and these have only recently been
confirmed, the deadline for applications is tight this year - March 9th.
Student nominations are no longer required.

Semester Dates 2006/7 - 2011/12
The Senate, at its meeting on 30th November 2005, approved a new pattern
of Semester dates for the University. The current dates are due to expire
at the end of the 2006/07 academic session, however, it was agreed that
the new semester dates should be implemented as soon as possible. The
new model will, therefore, take effect one year early, from the 2006/07
academic session.

"Fair" By Joy Wilkinson
£6.50/£4
A fascinating play about two young people a BNP racist thug and a solitary
female student locked into an intense relationship in a Northern English
town. This was a play that has something important to say about the battle
between sentimental nationalism and outward-looking multiculturalism .
. .
Burnley writer, Joy Wilkinson, confronts the racism brewing in Britain’s
northern towns and beyond. What’s turning young people to the right?
How and why are the BNP managing to recruit?

to help us achieve this.
Please come along to one of the sessions below prepared to tell us about
your experience of appraisals and what you would like to get out of your
appraisal. Lunch will be provided.

Works on Campus
Longside Halls
For your information, the Periodic Inspection and Testing of the fixed
wiring is to be carried out in the Longside Halls of Residences (Blocks
A to M), this will involve the inspection and testing of every electrical
circuit within each block.
The work will commence provisionally on Wednesday 15th February 2006
in Longside Hall A Block and progress alphabetically through to M Block.
This work is expected to be completed by Friday 10th March 2006. Each
block will take approximately one and a half days, depending on access
to student rooms.
Whilst the work is being carried out, the various areas under test will
be without electricity for periods of time.
The occupants of the building will be given prior notice of these periods
of time. I would ask the occupants of the areas under test to switch off
and unplug their equipment prior to the commencement of testing.
There is a possibility that the heating and ventilation systems and other
services within the building could be affected whilst this work is being
carried out.
Any inconvenience to the occupants of the building will be kept to a
minimum.
Should you have any queries regarding this work, will you please direct
them to either of the following people: -
Mr G Simpson Electrical Maintenance Officer Ext. 3431
