John
Hegley at Theatre in the Mill - this week
Wednesday 14 June 2006, 7.30pm
University of Bradford Graduate, John Hegley, returns for a special performance
as part of the University's 40th Anniversary celebrations.
Join John Hegley for a marriage of poetry, tale-telling and songs drawn
from his new book, Uncut Confetti. In a quest to rediscover his continental
roots, the poet visits the ancient carnival in Nice, puts on a mask and
conjures the spirit of his French folie bergère dancing Grandma.
Then he lets loose in the streets for a knees-up.
New poems, old potatoes . . . a stanza bonanza.
An accompanying book by John Hegley, also entitled Uncut Confetti was
published by Methuen in April, and will be available to buy at the performance.

Corporate Image Review
Can you spare an hour to give your opinion on our new design style?
In October we consulted students and staff on our corporate image, and
found we needed to make some adjustments to our current logo and the design
of our marketing material. Using this feedback, the Thinking Agency have
reconsidered our design style, and it is important that we gain the opinions
of our staff.
The discussion will take no longer than an hour (biscuits provided!),
and will be taking place on Monday 19th June, and Tuesday 20th June at
12.30pm. If you are interested in attending, please email a.ehsan@bradford.ac.uk,
indicating which group you can attend.

Works on Campus
Closure of part of Richmond Foyer due to essential works
The on-going works to create the new Student Centre in the Richmond Foyer
require the removal of the existing ceiling. This can only be done out
of normal working hours and must be completed by 25 June 2006.
To accommodate the works and to enable planned events to take place we
have made the following arrangements:
Weekend of 17/18 June - the ceiling above the main reception will be
removed. Access through the foyer to the main stairs and lifts will be
maintained.
Weekend of 24/25 June - the remainder of the ceiling will be removed.
There will be no access across the inner foyer to the stairs and lifts.
Effectively this means that there will be no access over the weekend to
any of the Richmond Building except the outer foyer without prior arrangement.
If the arrangements for 24/25 June present any problems to staff or students,
they should contact Mick Habergham, Deputy Security Manager (ext 6758
or m.habergham@bradford.ac.uk)
and where possible special arrangements will be made for access.
We apologise for the inevitable inconvenience these works will cause
but it is essential they are completed within the timeframe if the Atrium
and Student Centre are to be ready for the start of the new academic year.

Deputy Director of Estates & Facilities

Electrical shutdown of the main campus - final reminder
I would advise you that in order to enable essential maintenance work
to be carried out on both the Yorkshire Electricity and the University's
High Voltage equipment a complete shutdown of the electricity supply to
the University Main Campus is necessary.
Arrangements have been made for this to take place on Saturday 8th July
2006 and in consequence there will be no electricity supply
to any of the buildings on the Main Campus, from approximately 0800 hours
to 1700 hours.
All lifts will be "parked" before 0800 hours.
Priority will be given to restoring the electricity supply to the Richmond
Main Building by 1200 hours.
Fire alarm systems will operate as normal and will show in the Security
Control Room
All the entry/exit barriers should be raised before the electricity supply
is switched off.
As a precaution against possible loss or corruption of information it
is advisable to "power down" all file servers and computer equipment
at the end of the working day on Friday 7th July 2006 and leave them switched
off over the weekend.
If you have any queries regarding this work, please contact Mr. C. Overton
telephone 3425
