New. Courses available for staff from SLED (School of Lifelong Education and Development)

Do you have a first degree? If not, you might be interested in one of a number of courses available through SLED.

You can study a vocational Foundation Degree (see note) that relates directly to your field of work, or you might prefer to take one of our part-time BA programmes.

Public Sector Administration FdA
This course is appropriate for university staff who find themselves involved with the many aspects of administration.

Guidance and Learner Support FdA
If you are called upon to offer informal advice and support, but have no formal qualifications in this field, then this could be the course for you.

Education and Training Policy FdA
This course looks at change management, how policy is developed and implemented, the structure of the UK education and training system and how that system relates to others in Europe.

Social Studies BA
This was the first part-time degree offered by the University of Bradford, it has a hugely successful track record, particularly from members of University staff.

Community Regeneration and Development BA
Proving to be a popular choice for a number of organisations, there are some interesting modules here to get your teeth into!

Local and Regional Studies BA
Find out more about Yorkshire! This course has a multidisciplinary approach and looks at the subject in terms of Geography, Literature, History, Economics, Politics and Sociology.

If you're not sure you want to commit to a full award programme, you can enrol as an associate student and take modules that interest you. If you then decide that you would like to study for an award, the credits that you have already gained as an associate student may be taken forwards and count towards your award programme.

Come and find out more and meet some of the SLED team at our Open Day. We'll be in the Richmond Foyer on Tuesday 25 January from 1pm through to 7pm.

Foundation Degrees are qualifications in their own right. They are the equivalent to the first two years of an honours degree and should not be confused with a foundation year, which is at a lower academic level. On successful completion of a Foundation Degree, you can use the letters FdA, FdSc or FdEng after your name. It is possible with most foundation degrees to top them up to honours degree level, should you wish to do so.

New. Christmas Card Recycling Scheme

Last year the public recycled 45 million Christmas cards, or 883 tonnes, which is the equivalent of saving 15,011 trees.

In 2005 you can help surpass this figure and make a real difference to the environment by recycling your Christmas cards with the Woodland Trust’s Christmas Card Recycling Scheme.

Funds raised from the scheme will support the Woodland Trust’s major new campaign - Tree for all. Tree For All is the most ambitious children's tree-planting project ever launched in the UK, with plans to support children in planting 12 million trees over the next five years.

Simply take your cards to your local WHSmith or Tesco store during January 2005 and place them in the special bins provided.

Jaime Sullivan, Environmental Manager
