General University notices

New. Your University Needs You!

The Clearing Helpline: Thursday 17 August and Friday 18 August 2006.

Volunteers are required to assist with this mission critical activity. No previous experience is required and full training will be provided.

A very rewarding opportunity exists to help a large number of young, and not so young, people who find that they have not been accepted at their university of first choice and hence find themselves in Clearing. The University requires people with a sympathetic ear and a good telephone manner who can receive calls, log initial information, and forward these enquiries to colleagues in academic areas.

Commitment would involve a 4 hour shift per day, however if you can do more that would be appreciated.

Training will be provided and will involve a morning or afternoon session whereby you will be shown how to deal with an enquiry and how to log this on SAINT.

If you would like to find out more or volunteer your services, please e-mail Meena Mistry at m.mistry@bradford.ac.uk or ext 3081. Please respond by the 5 May 2006.

New. Car Parking Arrangements for Annual Meeting of Court on Wednesday 26th April 2006

Staff are advised that on Wednesday 26th April 2006, the Overflow (or sunken) car park on the main campus (with the entrance on Longside Lane) will be reserved all day for members of the University Court/Council who are attending the annual meeting of Court.

If you usually park in this car park we would be grateful if you could park elsewhere on the main campus, or alternatively, in the University car park at the rear of Revis Barber Hall of residence on Laisteridge Lane where there is always ample parking to be found.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Security.

There will also be a plenary session to discuss further developments in the University's LTA strategy.

A buffet lunch will be provided.

The final programme will be published in the week beginning May 15.

To propose a session or book a place now, send an email to tqe-sec@bradford.ac.uk. The draft programme will be available just after the Easter break.

New. Horton D Building

Details of Works: Due to the extensive refurbishment of Level 5 in the Horton D Building, and other associated works on Level 4 and Level 0, there is a need to have a complete shut-down of electrical power throughout the Horton D Building.

The proposed dates for the shut-down are the weekend, Saturday 22nd April and Sunday 23rd April 2006.

During the weekend shut-down, there will be no power or lighting. Essential services, (fire alarm and emergency lighting) will be maintained for a period of time, on battery back-up.

For Health and Safety reasons it is imperative that staff and students do not use/enter/occupy Horton D during the weekend shut-down.

Could all staff and students effected by the shut-down, ensure that any lighting, equipment and computers are switched/turned off, prior to the shut-down. This measure should prevent problems arising on the reinstatement of electrical power.

Should you have any queries regarding the work, please direct them to Mr Mario Szkwarczuk on extension 5022 or e-mail your query to m.v.szkwarczuk@bradford.ac.uk.
