Please keep entries concise (around 150 words maximum) with, if necessary, a link to further details on the web. Please check entries carefully for accuracy, grammar and timeliness before sending.

Entries will not routinely be repeated but a further entry is welcome when additional information or clarification is provided for publication.

Disaster Emergencies Committee pay facility at the Hub Payzone

The University of Bradford has set up an appeal pay facility in the Hub Payzone to gather contributions for the Disaster Emergencies Committee (DEC) appeal for the people affected by the floods in Pakistan. The code is 0290/16401/000000/XA301.

New routes to eResources and databases

The library is introducing a new way of locating and linking to online resources and databases for academic subject areas. Starting today, you will be able to search or browse for online resources, including eJournal and eBook collections, databases, organisational web sites, news services and anything else of quality and relevance to Bradford students and staff via the Library's new eResource web pages.

Voicemail upgrade Thursday 12 August

As a result of recent problems with the new voicemail service (intermittent loss of message waiting indicator), the system will undergo a further software upgrade on the evening of Thursday 12 August. The system will be taken down at 5pm and should be back in service no later than 9pm on the same evening.

Book your Learner Development Unit induction for September

If you would like to arrange a Learner Development Unit (LDU) Induction talk for new students in your department please contact the LDU team. A ten minute slot can be provided to introduce the service and the assistance available for students, to help them cope with the demands of studying at university level.

Reminder - Clearing helpline staff training

Clearing help lines will be open on Thursday 19 August. A training session for staff will be held on Wednesday 11 August for the QCE screen and using the clearing phones.

In addition there will be a staff drop-in training session on Tuesday 17 August between 11am - 2pm in room F42 Richmond for the QCE screen and phones. You do not need to book in, just turn up.

Northern Rail Travel Scheme

The University is now operating a new travel scheme with Northern Rail which offers an easy affordable way to save money on travel with an annual rail season ticket.

Completed applications should be sent to Human Resources room D36 by 15 September, for a start date of 1 October.

Turnitin2 launches 4 September

The launch date of Turnitin2 has now been confirmed for Saturday 4 September. There will be an 8 hour maintenance window from 6pm to 2am on this day. All Turnitin services (Originality Checking, GradeMark and PeerMark) may be unavailable during this time.

New Sabbatical Officers 2010/2011 postcards

New postcards and 'brief guide' cards to the Students' Union have been sent out in internal mail so should be with all staff soon. One card shows the new sabbatical officers and the other gives information about the Students' Union and the latest campus map. The SU will be in Student Central from early September.

If you could pass these to all members of staff and put any spare ones out for display for pick up. If you have lots of spares then please internal mail them back to Philip Lickley at the Students' Union or if you require extra ones of either card please e-mail: ubu-mmc@bradford.ac.uk

Chesham ceiling void cleaning

In the main central stair and lift lobby of Chesham the ceiling voids on each central lift landing level are to be environmentally cleaned between 6pm to 6am this week.
The cleaning on each floor are to be carried in the following order:

The necessary screening and tenting will completely block off the floor being worked on. Alternative stairs / lifts shall have to be used by people who will need to gain access to the above floors each evening. Contact Tony Sweeting on ext. 3440 for further information.

Join the Metro Scheme

The University operates a scheme for staff to purchase an annual Metro Cards at a 15% discount.

October 1 is the next start date for anyone wishing to join the scheme.

Metro card application forms are available at; http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/ecoversity/travel/metroscheme.php

Completed application forms must be sent by internal post to Human Resources by 15 August 2010 at the latest. Please note; new members will be required to bring two passport size photographs for your application to be processed.
