Call for papers – Improving Student Attainment

11th Annual Learning, Teaching & Assessment Conference 11 July 2012

We invite proposals from University of Bradford staff for sessions exploring aspects of improving student attainment.  Ensuring students achieve potential has always been an important aspect of the learner experience; however, the introduction of Key Information Sets (KIS) from September 2012, the increasing significance of league table results, and the current competitive job market etc, makes a more compelling case for institutions to demonstrate commitment to improving the standard of achievement.  We are interested in hearing about the range of approaches and activities you engage in and their impact on student attainment.

Interns available for 8-12 week projects

Once again as part of the University's Postgraduate Certificate in Employability and Entrepreneurship course, departments and schools are invited to offer students an 8-12 week internship project, allowing students to put their studies in to practice. In the past these projects have explored new initiatives or pieces of research and have proved very beneficial to both the student and the host.

The project should give the graduate an insight into working in a professional organisation and enable them to gain skills and confidence through taking your project forward. Providers are asked to contribute expenses.

If you think you may have a project to offer anytime from February onwards please contact Ann Berry a.berry@bradford.ac.uk or Catherine Jandzio c.jandzio@brad.ac.uk ext: 4998 who will be happy to discuss further.

Student Email Enquiries

As new students enroll in January there may be questions regarding Outlook Live (the email system for students). Here is a reminder of the links that deal with the majority of enquiries:

www.bradford.ac.uk/lss/it-services/email/ - the landing page that students come to after clicking on the 'Email for Students' link under Quick Links on the internal home page. This page carries links to the following:

https://ccreg.brad.ac.uk/CCReg/RequestOutlookLive - to set up new Outlook Live accounts.

www.bradford.ac.uk/lss/it-services/email/help/ - the help page for getting started with using Outlook Live, common actions and settings etc. There is also a link to a PDF version of the guide on this page.

www.bradford.ac.uk/lss/it-services/email/problems.php - outlines steps to take if students find they cannot login to Outlook Live.

Please ring ext.3333 if any student email problems haven't been resolved by using the above.

Libya: A case study for a Modern Media War with International Journalist, Nabila Ramdani

Wednesday 25 January 18.00-19.30, JSB Lecture Theatre, University of Bradford

Nabila Ramdani will explore the importance of tying military force to positive PR. Ramdani will argue that Gaddafi had to go, but that the 'hearts and minds' campaign at times descended into very sinister propaganda, with 'enemy' lives counting for nothing, no matter how many are killed.
