The policy provides a strong and secure framework to determine how we commit as an institution to treat all of our staff, students and visitors with dignity and respect. There will be University-wide communication over the course of March from the Equality and Diversity Team, who will be working closely with senior managers, with regard to the implementation of the new policy, training and information sharing events.
Do you want to find out about MyView and how you'll be able to use it to book your annual leave online? Then come along to one of the demonstrations between Monday 15 and Monday 22 March to see an overview and have your questions answered. There's no need to book, just turn up at a session to suit you.

We are now at the end of our second week of our Braduate Fund telethon where student callers contact our graduates to update them with recent developments at the University and also give them the opportunity to contribute to our fundraising which will benefit current and future students at the University of Bradford.
In week one our graduates had pledged £20,000 to the fund and we are delighted to report that the total amount pledged at the end of week two is in excess of £45,000.
The student callers are really enjoying their conversations with graduates and have taken the opportunity to get advice on career opportunities. Some graduates have also offered work shadowing days which have been gratefully accepted.
The Braduate Fund telethon will run for a further two weeks until 21 March.
May 1 is the next start date for anyone wishing to join the Metro Scheme. Members of staff receive a 15% discount on the normal cost of a Metro Card. Application forms and further details are available at the link below:

Ecoversity are carrying out a survey to find out what you think about the University's Fairtrade status and what your view of sustainability is. The data will be used for research purposes only and your help is greatly appreciated. To respond please go to the link below:

The University is reviewing its use of technology to support learning and teaching, including Blackboard, the University's virtual learning environment.
If you have strong views on this or any other technology the University provides (eg PebblePad, QuestionMark Perception, TurnitinUK, Elluminate) and want to have your say please come to one of the focus groups being held during March. It will only take one hour of your time (or one and a half with refreshments).
The views of a wide range of staff, with different levels of experience and interest from experts to non-users, are required.

Theatre in the Mill, 25 - 27th March
Orphaned pirates, crazy policeman, beautiful daughters and a Major General all add to the fun of this comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W.S.Gilbert.
Come and watch BUSOM perform The Pirates of Penzance at the University of Bradford, Theatre in the Mill from 25 to the 27 March.
There will be evening performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a matinee on the Saturday too. Tickets cost £5.00 each or £3.50 for concessions, tickets are available from the cast or by emailing theatre@bradford.ac.uk.

Escalate is receiving lots of interest from employers seeking the accreditation of their own training either for progression onto a University course, or as an award in its own right. Would you know how to respond to such a request?
Escalate is teaming up with the West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network and the Employer Based Training Accreditation Service to bring you the answers.

Escalate has teamed up with Common Purpose to a offer a unique and specially designed day to provide networking opportunities and enhance understanding of how Bradford works, the issues facing local employers, and how the University can contribute.
The day will include both visits to and discussion with employers from all sectors. This event has been designed primarily for Escalate, but it is open to any University or West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network colleagues, subject to availability.

The Horton A Building and link routes to Chesham B and Horton D are now closed and access to all bar authorised personnel is prohibited. The closure is initially for specialist enabling works and then for the alterations and extension forming the School of Health Studies Relocation Project.

Work to install a new gas supply pipe to serve the existing boiler plant for Horton D Lecture Theatre is taking place. The work may affect pedestrian routes along part of the Horton D Building.
Connection to the utilities network will be from the main in Richmond Road on the opposite side to the entrance of Richmond Building terminating inside the bicycle enclosure. The heating system within Horton D Lecture Theatre will remain unaffected.
It is anticipated that work will commence on Thursday 11 March 2010 at approximately 8am and will take seven days to substantial completion and a further five days to final completion (including a temporary re-surfacing) although work may be completed before this time.

Alterations to the roundabout in front of the Emm Lane Building commenced on Monday 8 March and will take approximately three weeks.
Initially the hourly bus will have to drop and embark passengers on Emm Lane. As work progresses it will be able to turn by reversing under supervision.

Last week was Eating Disorders Awareness Week. To mark the event a research project website was launched to recruit participants to a PhD project which seeks to explore the experiences of males who identify as having issues with food, weight and body image.
The West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network is delighted to announce the third annual West Yorkshire Adult Work-Based Learning Awards. These awards recognise the achievements of employees who have succeeded in progressing onto a higher education course while continuing to work.

Unltd (the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs) and HEFCE have joined forces to provide start-up support and funding to staff or students in HEIs who have an enterprising solution to a social problem. Staff and students who are interested in using their entrepreneurial skills to create positive change in the community may be eligible for one of our new awards, either to help to get a new project off the ground, or to take an existing project to the next level.
