Anne's retirement do Just a reminder that Anne Jay is holding a drink and nibbles 'party' this Friday (11th January) at 12 - 2pm to celebrate her retirement after 23 years at the University. This is being held in the Staff Common Room (F22/23 Richmond Building) and she will be really pleased to see all her friends and colleagues from around the University. Corporate Communications are organising a card/collection for her and if you would like to add a message and/or donate to a gift please come along to room D17 of Richmond (opposite the Boardroom) and see either Sheila or June. We look forward to having a really good turnout for Anne on Friday - put it in your diary now!

Burglaries and thefts from Des Cogan, Security Manager In the year ending 31st December 2001 there were 250 burglaries and thefts in University premises compared with 158 the previous year. The majority of this increase involved small items of personal property, including wallets, purses, briefcases, handbags and clothing. Also a significant higher percentage were from Halls of Residence and car parks. Therefore your increased assistance and heightened vigilance, particularly in these 'target' areas is requested to help reverse this disturbing trend. Small items of personal property should never be left unattended in unoccupied offices, laboratories or libraries. Students in residence should keep their doors locked even when rooms are to be left unoccupied for a few minutes. Items of property should never be left on view in motor vehicles, and suitable anti-theft devices are available which will deter many opportunist thieves. Des Cogan, Security Manager, would like to remind all members of staff and students, of the need to take every possible precaution to ensure the security of their personal property and that of the University. Further information on personal safety and crime prevention is available on the web site at www.bradford.ac.uk/admin/security.
Research on Fatherhood, volunteers wanted I am looking for fathers who are employed at the university who would be willing to participate in a group interview for my dissertation, which is based on experiences of fatherhood. Unfortunately due to the size restrictions of the dissertation I will only be able to focus at depth on fathers of European origin who live with children aged between 0-16 years old. If these circumstances apply to you and you would be able to take part in a group interview at the university on Wednesday the 23rd Jan between 12.30pm and 1.30pm, could you please let me know as soon as possible, by email (T.M.Plowman@bradford.ac.uk) or contact me on 01274 412208. Thanks. Tom Plowman, Social and Welfare Studies, final year student. |
