University of Bradford Chess Society

The University has successfully re-launched its chess activities in the local and regional chess leagues. The society currently has 25 members from all around the globe, and is very active already, taking part in the local and regional league competitions and in other local tournaments. They have friendly practice nights every Monday at 7.30pm in the Latvian Club, Clifton Villas, Manningham Lane. Anyone who wishes to practice a bit more before entering the rigorous league matches on Tuesdays is welcome to join them. Don't worry about your playing strength - you will be matched with the right opponent; not too strong, not too weak. And even if you do not know how to play chess, they will teach you!

Anyone interested in joining should contact Gonzalo Shoobridge at G.Shoobridge@bradford.ac.uk or ext: 5678, and see www.universitychess.org.uk for more details.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL CONTRACT RESEARCH STAFF

The Contract Research On-line Survey

You should, by now have been notified either by me or by your Dean/Head of Department about the Contract Research On-Line Survey. The University of Bradford is one of several institutions nationwide that has agreed to take part in this HEFCE-backed project being led by the University of Bristol. The purpose of this message is to remind and urge you to take the time to visit the site and complete a questionnaire. (When doing so you must use a PC that has a University of Bradford IP address (i.e. a machine that is on the University's network).

By taking part in the survey you will:

  1. Help the University improve the quality of the data that exists in relation to your views
  2. Provide us with good quality data on a range of subjects relevant to your experiences and needs at Bradford

e.g.

  • i) induction and progress
  • ii) career advice and aspirations
  • iii) training and development (access to training and advice)
  • iv) training and development (Research Skills)
  • v) training and development (transferable skills)
  • vi) career development
  • vii) communication

The information that you will provide to us by completing a questionnaire on line will be used to help address areas where we might improve and build further on areas where good work is already being done. Ultimately we will be in a position to share best practice amongst colleagues at other institutions taking part in the exercise with the aim of improving the employment experience for CRS at Bradford and across the sector.

So PLEASE visit the following site at: http://www.cros.ac.uk/survey/bradford

Fill out a questionnaire (it takes about 20 minutes from start to finish) and submit it. In order to complete a questionnaire you must use a PC with a Bradford University IP address (i.e. on which is on the University's network). ALL SUBMISSIONS ARE ANONYMOUS.

THE DEADLINE FOR SURVEYS TO BE SUBMITTED IS: 15 February 2002

A lot of work has gone into developing this survey and it will only be worth it from our point of view if you - CRS at Bradford - play your part in sharing with us your views and opinions. The University is committed to giving you the best possible chance in every aspect of your working life here - so please help us to help you.

Thanks in advance for making the effort.
