New. Difference Week - School of Health Studies

The School of Health Studies has confirmed a 'Difference' Week for the week commencing 29th September to 3rd October. A week of promotional activities to explore and celebrate the differing social and cultural backgrounds of people living within British society.

The Four aims of the week are:

  • encourage students and staff to learn about differences within society
  • celebrate the diverse nature of the society we live in
  • collect information about staff and student's views in relation to equality issues
  • promote the School's work on equality amongst the general public

Activities

Throughout the week there will be an exhibition of information stands displaying information on various issues. In addition, events will be organised to enable staff and students to share aspects of their identity with others.

Each lunchtime, a plenary will be held in the lecture hall to encourage discussion and stimulate debate amongst staff and students about different aspects of equality.

On the 1st October at 3pm in the Great Hall, there will be a special event held for staff and students at the School of Health, staff from the School of Archaeological, Geographical and Environmental Sciences and staff from School of Life Sciences. The play will be performed by Cragrats of Holmfirth and will provide training in a fun and unique way on all aspects of equality and diversity.

Further information will be made available nearer to the event but be sure to mark this off in your diaries now!

Every evening entertainment will be organised in the form of a performance by a local group. A survey will be undertaken during the week in order to examine staff and students' knowledge, understanding and attitudes towards equal opportunities policies and practices within the School and more widely within the University
