The University has established Health & Safety Panels within Academic and
Administrative departments. These panels have a membership drawn
from all interested parties and advise the person responsible
for safety within the area concerned. Full support of the Dean or Head of Planning Unit is given to the Panel members and those Officers, such as Safety Liaison Officers, who are required to maintain and monitor health and safety standards within the area.
The Health & Safety Panel meets on a minimum of 3 occassions during the year dependent on the level of perceived risk in the area.
The full terms of reference
of the panels are:
(i) To advise on health and safety measures appropriate to the
area to be covered by the Health & Safety Panel and to keep such matters
under review.
(ii) To advise upon the promotion of safety consciousness in staff
and students.
(iii) To maintain, through the Chairperson of the Health & Safety Panel, liaison
with the University Health & Safety Adviser.
(iv) To ensure that workplace inspections are regularly carried
out.
(v) To submit an annual report summarising major issues facing the Planning Unit to the Safety Committee Working Group through the University
Health & Safety Adviser.
