Honorary
Degree for Mongolian PM

The
Prime Minister of Mongolia (pictured above with Vice-Chancellor
Professor Colin Bell) was presented with an honorary
degree from the University as part of an itinerary in Britain,
which included talks with Tony Blair. Rinchinnyam Amarjargal
graduated with a MSc from the University's Development and
Project
Planning Centre in 1995 at the age of 34. He was appointed
Prime Minister of Mongolia in July 1999.
GETSET
The University's School of Engineering hosted almost 200
girls from local schools as part of GETSET (Girls Entering
Tomorrow's Science Engineering and Technology). During the
two-day event, the girls worked on 22 projects across 4
areas of the University.
New
director of Marketing and Corporate Communications
Alison Darnbrough was appointed as the University's first-ever
Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications as part
of a drive to improve recruitment and applications at the
University.

Wondergel
launched
A unique gel that can be used to soak up oil pollution,
transport medicines around the body, and even grow new skin
cells, was patented by researchers at the University's School
of Pharmacy.
Pharmacy
Doctorate launched
The School of Pharmacy launched a new professional doctorate,
the first of its kind for hospital pharmacists in Europe.
The DPharm offers a practical part-time alternative to the
traditional PhD for research training in pharmacy.
European
research awards
University researchers won their first major awards from
Europe's biggest public research fund, the EU Fifth Framework
programme.

Asian President

Shumon
Rahman (pictured above) was elected as Student Union
President - the first Asian president to be elected at the
University.

bpd
opens
Trade and Industry Minister Stephen Byers opened University
spin-off company bpd's new £1 million plant to manufacture
pharmaceuticals using revolutionary new technology.
Investors
in People
Investors in People status was awarded to the University's
School of Health Studies.
New
courses launched

Three
new courses in healthcare technology (above) were
launched to meet growing industry demand. The courses, in
health and safety management, medical electronics and medical
technology in sport, were designed for students interested
in medical engineering.
European
excellence
The University's Management Centre was awarded the coveted
European business school business quality kitemark EQUIS.
BBC
on campus

Bradford
was selected as one of only three universities in the country
to feature in a BBC television programme (above),
Student Essentials.
