University a good place to
work, say staff
University staff like their
line managers and feel they are trusted to get on with their jobs, a wide-ranging
survey has found.
More than 650 people completed
the Staff Satisfaction Survey which showed that 86% felt "my manager trusts
me to do my job".
The survey also revealed that
69% of staff feel the University is a good place to work.
Staff Development Adviser Pete
Sayers said: "The University has always been a friendly place and this
shows that managers do make an effort to ensure this is a good place to
work."
Overall results showed a slight
improvement in satisfaction rates since the last survey was carried out
in 2002.
This year's survey looked in
detail at a range of issues, including staff's jobs, the working environment
and the University's performance and leadership. Big improvements were
seen in the induction of new staff members.
People appear to know how their
work fits in with corporate priorities but when asked what they felt about
their future, the highest priority was to "be more realistic about workloads".
O
ther high-priority issues were
to reward people for performance rather than just long service and to
"say thank you".
Pete added that while higher
levels of satisfaction with immediate managers contrasted with satisfaction
of overall University management, "the ability of the University to communicate
with staff seems to be improving".
