Foundation Student Join the
Ceremony
Students
who studied for Foundation Degrees were among the hundreds of graduates
who assembled for their memorable graduation day.
Foundation Degrees are a key
Government initiative that aims to fill skills gaps and give more people
access to higher education.
Health and Social Care student
Shazia Karim had to fit in her studies around looking after her seven-year-old
son, working part-time in a building society and doing volunteer work.
But after two years of hard
work Shazia celebrated her degree graduation with her family, some of
whom travelled from America for the occasion.
She said: "I had a tough time
fitting in the work, so the lecturers were really helpful, offering a
lot of flexibility. It has been quite an experience. My family have also
been very supportive and I owe my mum a lot of credit - I couldn't have
done this without her. This is a big achievement for me."
There could be more graduation
ceremonies on the horizon for Shazia, who now plans to go on to do a BA
Honours degree.
Health and Social Care graduate
Samantha Stewart (pictured above right), of the School of Health
Studies, will be following in her father's footsteps and continuing her
social work studies at Bradford.
She said: "My family are very
proud of me. I have really enjoyed the course and I would like to continue
my studies, eventually working in the area of child protection."
The Schools
of Engineering, Design and Technology and Lifelong
Education and Development also saw Foundation Degree students graduating
for the first time.
