Academic Fellowships
The University of Bradford
has been awarded £375,000 to appoint three new Fellows to give contract
research staff more attractive and stable paths into academia.
Following the Government's
strategy for science, engineering and technology, 'Investing in Innovation'
the Government has provided funds to create new five-year academic fellowships
under the Academic Fellowship Scheme.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor
for Research and Innovation Professor Phil Coates said: "This is a fantastic
opportunity for three researchers to begin their academic career at the
University of Bradford, whilst undertaking work in some fascinating areas
of cutting-edge research."
Training provision will be
provided during the Fellowships, and the Fellows must undertake outreach
to communities. Annual performance appraisals and personal development
advice will also be provided.
Staff from
the Polymer Engineering Interdisciplinary Research Centre
Bids were successful from the
following areas:
- The School

Interdisciplinary Research Centre and the Polymer Centre for Industrial
Collaboration has been awarded funding for one Fellow.
- The Department
of Peace Studies has been awarded two appointments - in the International
Centre for Participation Studies and in the Centre for International
Co-operation and Security.
Dean of EDT, Professor Andrew

Fellowships to enable an individual to develop personally in their academic
path, but also to operate successfully as part of an interdisciplinary
team to achieve maximum benefit to themselves, the School and the University."
Head of Peace Studies, Professor
Shaun Gregory, said: "The Department is delighted to have won these prestigious
Fellowship awards and we owe a debt to Professor Malcolm Chalmers for
