University Approach to Teaching
and Learning
A
conference to discuss the implementation of the University's approach
to teaching and learning has been hailed a huge success.
In 2001, the ExcellencePLUS
strategy for the University was approved. The strategy emerged from the
'Bradford approach to Teaching & Learning' and was universally accepted
as the positive way forward. Bradford's unique qualities embodied in the
approach were identified and highlighted as a strength that the University
should actively encourage and promote.
The ExcellencePLUS
Mini Conference provided an overview of the latest developments. The event
included several poster presentations, practical advice to staff within
the University and was an opportunity for open discussion between colleagues.
Those attending the
conference included a wide range of staff from the University and College.
There was also an international interest from the South African Mining
Qualifications Authority who had heard about ExcellencePLUS and wanted
to find out more.
Assistant Registrar
Julie Hodgson said: "The conference, which was a huge success, provided
an opportunity for delegates to gain an insight into how ExcellencePLUS
was being implemented across the University. The poster presentations
displayed in D4 foyer helped to demonstrate how theory had been put into
practice and provided a foci for open discussion over lunch."
'Excellence' refers
to the delivery of relevant and up-to-date curricula of the University's
programmes through staff commitment and quality teaching whilst 'PLUS'
is the systematic approach to the development of key skills which is offered
to all students.
Three elements have
been identified to support the implementation of the strategy:
- Identifying and
developing key skills on entry
- Embedding key skills
in the curriculum
- Developing key
skills for the future.
