School of Informatics Poster Day

The University's Department of Computing held a poster day for final-year students and postgraduate students to present their project work.

Vice-Chancellor Chris Taylor and a student.Guests attending the day included industrialists, staff, and friends of the students as well as the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chris Taylor.

Final-year tutor in the Department of Computing, John Mellor, said: "I was delighted with the effort put in by the students. The main aim of the event was to enable the students to enjoy themselves and present their final-year work."

The informal atmosphere was enhanced with a buffet and guests were invited to stay and ask any questions.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chris Taylor (pictured right with a student), said: "I was extremely impressed by the range, quality and achievements of the project work described in the posters. The vitality of the students and their articulation of the aims and objectives of the studies, together with the outcomes, did credit to them, the Department of Computing and the School of Informatics."

The range of projects included work in Haptics (which means the use of the sense of touch for computer interaction); facial image recognition; mobile networking and commerce and web-based tutorials.

The Department finds that its interaction with industry provides final-year and post-graduate students with real problems to solve.
