European Computer Driving
Licences
Eighteen staff have
been presented with their European Computer Driving Licence certificates
by PVC Grace Alderson.

Val Hutchings, Aruna Bhardwaj, Mike Cox, Professor Grace Alderson, Wendy
Pountain, Bharti Mistry, Lynda Nuttall, Anne Copley, Heidi Smith, Melanie
Alexander and Carol Sealey. Those people who acheived their ECDL but are
not pictured are: Cath Hooson, Elaine Smith, Valerie Stephenson-Lewis
and Christine Thacker.
The 18 are the first
members of University staff to pass the ECDL. The scheme, which was formally
launched last year, can take up to three years to complete.
The ECDL certificate
demonstrates basic IT competence across a wide range of applications,
and is recognised in countries throughout the world. At present ECDL is
only offered to staff at the University, and it is planned to enrol up
to 50 candidates each year.
Plans are afoot to
also offer it to students, and members of the local community, through
the School of Lifelong Learning and Development.
