Presentation in memory of
Bradford Doctor
The
wife of a devoted Bradford Chemical Engineer has been given a special
gift in memory of her husband, the University's Dr Narayan Tavare.
The Head of Formulation
Engineering Research Centre at the University of Birmingham, Professor
Jonathan Seville, presented a special bound edition of the 'Journal of
Powder Technology' to Mrs Vasanti Tavare and her two sons, Abhijeet and
Aniket.

This special issue
brings together a set of papers from some of the contributors to the second
Bradford International Workshop on Industrial Crystallization, held at
the University in September 1999.
The conference organiser
and guest editor for this issue was Dr Tavare, of the Department of Chemical
Engineering, who tragically died before he could complete the task.
Born in 1950 in a
small village in India, Dr Tavare spent a brief period as an Associate
Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at Bombay, before coming to the UK to
work as a Research Assistant in the Chemical Engineering Department at
University College London (UCL). Over the next 17 years, first at UCL
and then at UMIST, Dr Tavare was involved in a wide range of crystallization
studies.
Dr Tavare, who died
in 2000, was appointed a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at Bradford
in 1995 and during 2000 was promoted to a Readership. His achievements
in the field of industrial crystallization were recognised by the award
of a DSc by the University of Manchester in 1995.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor
of UMIST, Professor John Garside, said: "Narayan was an extremely loyal
colleague, totally committed to both his colleagues and his research.
His tragically early death deprived the chemical engineering community
in general, and crystallization in particular, of a highly talented man.
"Through the patient
co-operation of the contributors it has been possible to realise Dr Tavare's
original intentions and this issue stands as a fitting memorial to him."
