Chess Society Donation
The University's Chess
Society has passed 160 chess books that were donated to them on to Bradford
Central Library.
BT Batsford agreed
to donate copies of all their chess books and any new ones they produced
to the University.
Gonzalo Shoobridge,
the President of the University's Chess Society, said: "The donation proved
too vast amount for our society's 40 members. Both the University's collection
, which comprised 50 books, and BT Batsford's donation have been allocated
in the Bradford Central Library for wider diffusion purposes.
"We thought that over
1000 chess players in Bradford and the district could access BT Batsford's's
publications if they were on display in the central library. We also wanted
to allow the public to access the titles on the Bradford Public Library's
PCs so the books would have a bigger exposure."
The books were stamped
in recognition of the University's ownership and the central library agreed
to produce a plate in acknowledgement of the support shown by the University
and chess book publisher BT Batsford Ltd.
The University's chess
team and President of the Bradford and District Chess Association were
invited to witness the donation.
