Welcome

Sir Chris Bonnington. It's the start of the new academic year and this month is a double edition, featuring the latest news from the University.

In July, more then 1,900 students graduated from the University. As well as featuring the leading figures who received Honorary Doctorates in recognition of their contributions in their fields of expertise, we also spoke to some students who had special reason to celebrate their big day.

Other events included the launch of University's and College's Inprint and Design and the appointment of Sir Christopher Benson as Chairman of AGT.

The University hit the news headlines during the summer for its Archaeological Sciences projects at Rievaulx Abbey and the Shetland Islands. Startling new evidence is currently being excavated at the Iron Age Village of Old Scatness. One of the rare discoveries includes an incise carving of a bear in sandstone.

Meanwhile, we catch up with former Summer School recruits who look back on their time at the University in a special feature.

Other popular University initiatives, such as the FE2HE Summer School and Headstart, are also covered.
