Liam Smith from Outlane Junior School in Huddersfield visited the University's Clearing Open Day with his Grandmother, Maralyn Smith, to see what forensic sciences was all about. The youngster was able to visit the department of Archaeology and find out more about the subject and examine some fish bones, much to his delight. Maralyn brought her grandsons to the Open Day after seeing an advert in a local newspaper. She said; "Liam has been interested in Archaeology since learning about the Egyptians at school and we went to watch an Archaeological dig at Tolson Museum last week. "He seems very interested in forensics too. He's fascinated by skeletons and anything to do with bones, he likes to find old bones and bring them home! "We also got the opportunity to take Liam's younger brother to the Engineering department, as he is showing a very keen interest in being a train engineer, even now at the age of 5. "We had a really good day, we'll just see if he still likes bones in 10 years time!" The budding archaeologist, Liam, thoroughly enjoyed his day and said; "I like it at the University especially the Archaeology department because there was a lot of interesting rooms. "The one I liked best was the one with skeletons and bones. I am looking forwards to going again soon." Organiser of the Clearing Open Days, Kevin Spencer commented; "It was great to see someone so enthusiastic about the topic. He looked to be really enjoying his visit to the department. "There's another chance for people interested in looking at the University's courses this Wednesday from 10am - 3.30pm and an early evening session from 6 - 8." 23 August 2005 |
