Honorary Graduations at the University of Bradford - July 2005

Award Cam link.Leading figures from the worlds of education, science, politics, business, theatre, equal opportunities and local race relations are to receive honorary doctorates from the University of Bradford this week.

The University will honour Inspector Martin Baines, Barrie Rutter, Barbara Stephens, Lord Haskins of Skidby, Baroness Estelle Morris, Professor Craig Jordan and Dr Gill Hawksworth during three days of ceremonies from Wednesday 20 to Friday 22 July 2005.

Professor Chris Taylor, Vice-Chancellor of the University, said: "We extend our warmest welcome to the honorary graduates.

"It is with great pride that we have been given this opportunity to honour our distinguished guests, who this year cover a wide range of expertise from the arts to pharmaceutical science.

"All seven of the honorary graduates are recognised for their outstanding achievements within fields relevant to the interests and objectives of the University of Bradford."

All graduation ceremonies will take place in the Great Hall in the Richmond Building on the main campus of the University. Maps.

Barrie Rutter.Barrie Rutter

Barrie Rutter is being awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Bradford for his distinctive contributions to theatre as the founder and Artistic Director of the Northern Broadsides touring company.

Martin Baines is being awarded an honorary Doctor of the University by the University of Bradford for his contributions as the West Yorkshire Police Community and Race Relations Officer for the Bradford district.

(Formerly Rt. Hon. Estelle Morris)

Estelle Morris is being awarded on honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Bradford for her achievements as a Member of Parliament since 1992 and, in particular, for her contributions towards promoting social inclusion and success in the field of education.

Lord Haskins.Lord Haskins of Skidby

Lord Haskins of Skidby is being awarded an honorary Doctor of the University by the University of Bradford in recognition of his outstanding business achievements as Chairman of Northern Foods, his contributions to the region as a board member of Yorkshire Forward and to national Government through membership of many committees, and as the Rural Recovery Co-ordinator.

Gill Hawksworth.Dr Gill Hawksworth MBE

Dr Gill Hawksworth is being awarded an honorary Doctor of Science by the University of Bradford for her distinguished and extensive contributions to the pharmacy profession and, in particular, in recognition of her appointment as President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) in 2003 - 04.

Craig Jordan.Professor Craig Jordan

Professor Craig Jordan is being awarded an honorary Doctor of Science by the University of Bradford for his distinguished contributions to medical science, in particular, for his pioneering work in the field of antiestrogens as a treatment for women with breast cancer.
