Wonder of Science
Pupils
had their eyes opened to the wonders of science when they took part in
National Science Week.
Pupils from Hanson, St Joseph's
Catholic College, Huddersfield New College and The Salt Grammar School
took part in hands-on workshops in the School
of Engineering, Design and Technology.
The projects included building
a model of the millennium wheel, 'Listening to Kylie through a Cardboard
Box' and a Robotics Discovery Workshop.

Admissions Liaison Officer
Joanne Crowther said: "Participants worked in teams to develop their problem-solving
and teambuilding skills, and prizes were awarded for the best results.
The aim of the event was to excite and inspire young people about engineering
and science."
Meanwhile,
a series of public lectures run by the School of Life Sciences, entitled
'Science - a matter of life or death!', highlighted the ways in which
scientific discoveries can affect our everyday lives.

Optometry.
Lectures covered topics as
diverse as assessment of cataracts, prescribing errors, DNA manipulation,
forensic 'detective' work and bald man-eating lions. Also as part of the
week, pupils attended a 'Life Sciences Focus
Day', delivered in partnership with Excellence Challenge.
The day provided hands-on
experience in biomedical sciences, chemical and forensic science, optometry
and pharmacy, which students found a positive and beneficial experience.
