Jeff Lucas.New appointments for PVC

Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Learning and Teaching Professor Jeff Lucas has accepted two prestigious public office roles.

Jeff (pictured right) is the only representative from an English University on the Health Professions Council (HPC), which regulates over 100,000 different health professionals including therapists, clinical scientists and paramedics.

Following the appointment, he said: "The HPC protects the public through good education, training and professional competence assurance. We will set standards, approve courses and work with the QAA to ensure ongoing quality."

As well as this role, Jeff has taken up office as the non-executive member of the West Yorkshire Strategic Health Authority representing higher education. The Strategic Health Authority (SHA) provides strategic leadership to ensure the delivery of improvements in local health and social care services across Primary and Secondary care.

Jeff said: "The SHA also performance manage NHS Trusts including Primary Care Trusts and Workforce Development Confederations who fund Medical Schools and Faculties of Health Studies. "It is a great privilege to represent the HE sector at both national and regional level."

Vice-Chancellor Professor Chris Taylor said: "Both posts attracted considerable interest and were very competitive. These responsibilities reflect well on the University and we congratulate Jeff on both public office appointments."
