Paul Rankin and Stephen Smith.Top Chef joins School of Management

Bradford University School of Management has welcomed renowned restaurateur Stephen Smith as the new chef based at its prestigious Heaton Mount executive education and conference facility.

Stephen Smith (right) worked alongside celebtrity chef Paul Rankin during a recent gourmet event at the School of Management.

From 1984 to 1998, Stephen was co-proprietor and chef at the famous Restaurant 19, on Bradford's North Park Road.

The restaurant received a host of accolades including: the Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year (twice); Egon Ronay Restaurant of the Year Runner-up; Yorkshire Life magazine Restaurant of the Year (twice); the Yorkshire Post Restaurant of the Decade (1990), and the prestigious Michelin 1st star.

Stephen has also worked at Millbank Restaurant, Sowerby Bridge, and Five Rise Locks hotel, Bingley. He said: "It is a very pleasant environment and I am really pleased to be here. Food does not have to be extravagant in its style or presentation to be good. If you use honest ingredients, you can't go wrong. I will be sticking to seasonal ingredients and using local produce."

General Services Manager Trish Cannon said: "Stephen is a fantastic addition to a wonderful team. Over the past two years we have been successfully striving towards excellence and Stephen's skills and innovative approach will play a big part in helping us achieve our goal."
