STORYSCAPE SHOW A HUGE SUCCESS

Some of the cast of Storyscape.Talented students from Bradford brushed up on their drama skills when they took part in a unique production by Theatre in the Mill.

Storyscape, which was presented at the Alhambra Studio, brought together a multicultural cast of youth theatre groups and international students. The four groups involved were Asian Theatre School, Theatreworks, Millennium Volunteers and the University Theatre Group.

Following two months of hard work, the production was performed with specially composed live music and a script entirely devised by the cast. Bradford's Deputy Lord Mayor also attended one of the performances.

Storyscape illustrated life's challenges, triumphs and disasters. At the centre of the performance was the question of how people see themselves if they have nothing to define themselves against, such as family or landscape. Using the mixed nationalities of the cast, the production took a journey to a place without structure, and looked at how people work with and against each other. Many of the cast told individual stories in their own chosen style and language.

Theatrical partners contributed time and resources to give young local people the chance to learn drama skills. Storyscape gave many young people their first chance to perform on stage.

With his commitment to staging good theatre with young people, Fellow in Theatre Andrew Loretto said he expected the cast to work hard and achieve great results. He said: "I'm really pleased the show came together so well and all the groups were really excited at working together."

Participant Zenab Khan, of Asian Theatre School, said: "It is exciting for Asians, especially in Bradford, to get this opportunity. I hope it continues."
