REVISION BROUGHT TO LIFE
Students
from four Bradford schools were prepared to 'work hard, play hard' when
they recently gave up their Easter holidays to revise.
The South Bradford Education Action Zone (EAZ) teamed up with the University
to provide an Easter Revision School for pupils. The students were selected
on their ability to achieve higher GCSE grades.
During the four-day course the 40 pupils studied English, mathematics
and science and attended study skills, swimming, badminton, while the
School of Engineering led applied project sessions. They received free
revision guides and certificates of attendance.
South
Bradford EAZ Director, Bernard Dady, said: "The EAZ believes that the
investment in the Revision School will improve the grades of both individuals
and the percentage of students achieving 5+ A* to C grades in the schools.
"We are grateful to the four teachers who agreed to work an extra week
and to the University for its contribution. The EAZ is committed to improving
education and raising standards through partnership. This revision school
is a good example of our partners working together for the benefit of
young people."
Bradford
Graduate Pathway Co-ordinator, Caroline Chambers, said: "The purpose of
the EAZ Easter Revision programme is to raise the attainment of students.
We included study skills sessions that have been delivered by University
staff and have had a range of sporting activities and engineering workshops,
which have brought science and maths to life.
"We felt that it was important to have a varied programme to make the
learning experience enjoyable for all participants. The University values
its partnership with South Bradford EAZ and we are looking forward to
working collaboratively in the future."
