GOODBYE TO PROJECTS?
David
Howlett (pictured left) has been awarded a research grant of almost £240,000
to look into the challenges of the use of the sustainable livelihood approach
to development.
David, of the Development and Project Planning Centre, has been given
the money for a research project entitled: 'Goodbye to Projects? The Institutional
Impacts of a Livelihood Approach on Projects and Project Cycle Management.'
The project, which has been funded by the Department for International
Development (DFID), is a collaborative effort between the Economic and
Policy Research Centre, in Uganda; Khanya - Managing Rural Change, in
South Africa; and the Institute for Development Management, in Tanzania.
David said: "Researchers will undertake an innovative review of the challenges
to the use of the sustainable livelihood approach to development. Central
to this will be to question the role of projects in development interventions
and the development of sector-wide approaches."
