STUDENTS FILM DRUG AWARENESS PROJECT

Five students from the Department of Electronic Imaging and Media Communications are working within the local community to film a drugs awareness project.

The team are producing a 20-minute drama-documentary as part of their course. The story is based on the life of a paranoid schizophrenic and his involvement with recreational drugs.

In order to complete the project, the group, accompanied by volunteer Sajat Mahmood, needed members of the community, aged between 16 and 24, to step forward.

Rod Clarkson said: "We needed to recruit 100 or so volunteers, mostly from the Manningham and Girlington areas. They were involved in different areas of production and gained a lot of benefits as a form of work experience. At the same time, they were able to learn a lot about filming and the whole production process."

The group hopes the film ,which included shots of a real rave, will now be used as an educational resource tool in community centres and schools.
