Cricketing Centre of Excellence

The Bradford/Leeds Universities' new Cricketing Centre for Excellence is now up and running with Kevin Sharp, the former Yorkshire batsman, appointed to the post of coach.

The Centre received over 50 student applications, from which a squad of 25, including 3 women, have been selected.

Steve Teasdale, Director of Physical Recreation, said: "The funding for our programme of activity is an English Cricket Board grant aid totalling £65,000. We've also generated a significant amount of sponsorship including £2,000 from Bradford Council, £1,000 from the Telegraph and Argus, £1,000 from Grattans plc, and £2,500 from Dunlop-Slazenger who have also donated playing and training kit worth a further £3,500."

In addition to staging the Centre's excellent fixture programme and some University cricket, the Centre's facilities will also be used to encourage community cricket.

At Park Avenue, two groundsmen have been employed to bring the ground up to county standards and work is continuing on replacing the old seating with donated seating from Headingley.

The Centre will also staging of a first class match between the Bradford/Leeds Universities' Cricketing Centre of Excellence and the Yorkshire County Cricket Club in June of this year.
