News and Views May Home

Welcome

To achieve a place at University is an exceptional achievement in itself, but this month's News & Views features some talented individuals who have worked hard to earn their place as one of the best in their field.

Talented cricketer Kathryn Leng recently made cricketing history when she became the first woman to compete with the men's team in the Bradford-Leeds Cricketing Centre of Excellence at the famous Bradford Park Avenue ground.

Mechanical and Medical Engineering student Rachel Joyce beat hundreds of hopefuls to win £7,500 when she was chosen as one of 30 of the UK's most exceptional engineering students by The Royal Academy of Engineering.

Helen Jackson and Graeme Hutchinson
received £5,000 after they impressed judges with their creative idea 'Complain2us' in a business planning competition. The innovative concept, based around an on-line complaints handling service, helped them to beat off stiff competition, including a team of financial specialists.

Meanwhile, the University has seen some changes over the last few weeks. The website had a makeover in May with the launch of its new external face, while staff, students and visitors have been tempted by the new espresso bar in the Richmond Building foyer, which has proved a great success.

News & Views is always on the lookout for more research and other stories from departments. Contact Rachael Ellis on r.ellis1@bradford.ac.uk or call (23)3084.
