STUDENTS TRIUMPH WITH ON-LINE COMPLAINTS SERVICE
Two innovative students from the University's School of Management have
received £5,000 after judges awarded them first prize in a business planning
competition.
The aim of the Leeds University Business Planning competition, organised
by Ecom Group, was to reward high quality new business ideas.
Business
and Management students Helen Jackson, 23, of Batley, Leeds, and Graeme
Hutchison, of Harden, near Bingley, (pictured left)
impressed judges with their creative idea 'Complain2us.' The
concept is based around an on-line complaints handling service which enables
companies to outsource their customer complaints facilities.
Graeme and Helen beat off stiff competition, including a team of financial
specialists, to win the award. The pair were put forward by tutor Dr Rana
Tassabehji.
Helen said: "The idea came about during a brainstorming session with friends.
We were convinced it would work, although a couple of people were originally
doubtful.
"This is an untouched area - around 90 per cent of customers would prefer
to walk away in a shop or restaurant than complain there and then. This
service would allow them to complain in the comfort of their own home."
Sponsors of the competition were Ecom Group, Leeds University Business
School, KPMG, Business 2.0 magazine, Axiomlab and Metropolitan Venture
Partners.
