LECTURER UP FOR NATIONAL AWARD
A University lecturer is in the running for a £50,000 prize after being
nominated for a national award.
Dr
David Elliott (pictured left) , who specialises
in clinical optometry in the Department
of Optometry, is one of 86 entries for the 2001 National Teaching
Fellowship Scheme.
He was nominated by the University because he was rated highly by students
and had an exemplary record as an innovative teacher.
The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme was launched in 2000 to reward
excellence in teaching and learning.
The scheme is administered by the Institute for Learning and Teaching
in Higher Education (ILT) on behalf of the Higher Education Funding Council
for England. Twenty winners will be chosen on June 6 and the awards will
be presented at a high profile event in London in July. n
** Do you know a tutor who deserves recognition? Then you can nominate
them for a NIACE Adult Tutors Award, which recognises the excellence and
commitment of adult tutors. NB. Tutors cannot nominate themselves. Nomination
forms are available at www.niace.org.uk/alw/2001
