CARVING OUT A MUSICAL CAREER
Talented
musician Moses Ekebuisa (pictured left) is
unlike your ordinary performer. Moses has just released his first CD featuring
his vocals and a range of instruments - but before he makes his own music,
he must make his own musical instruments.
The versatile poet, singer, musician and composer carves his traditional
African instruments from wood, including an African flute and a log drum.
Moses has been making music since he was a young boy growing up in Nigeria.
Now living in Bradford, and a Bradford science graduate, he works from
a small studio at Woolston House, Grattan Road.
His new CD, called 'One Voice', is a combination of African and Western
styles. It was published on his own label, Moses' Music.
Moses said: "Nobody introduced me to music - in Africa you are born into
it. It's part of your culture."
Culture or not, Moses' work stands out among his contemporaries - it has
twice been recognised by the Millennium Commission - first with an award
to work in schools and later with a Millennium Fellowship.
'One Voice' is available in most big record shops.
