MONEY FOR CHARITY
Outreach Tutor Nazaket Ali will lead a team of eleven youngsters on a
marathon bike ride to raise money for The Cancer Research Campaign.
The team, from West Bowling Youth Initiative, hope to raise over £5,000
from their epic ride from Bowness to Ilkley.
Team Leader Nazaket, of the Department
of Continuing Education, said: "This is going to be a real challenge,
but we have already received lots of support from groups, including the
West Yorkshire Police. We hope the local community will encourage us further
by sponsoring us along the way."
The Cancer Research Campaign's Special Appeal Manager, Rebecca Page, said:
"Our thanks to all at West Bowling Youth Initiative for taking on this
challenge and showing they care so much for what The Cancer Research Campaign
is trying to do for people with cancer in Bradford and beyond.
"The money raised will help doctors and scientists in Bradford and throughout
the country to find new cures and better treatments for cancer and so
save more lives." The Cancer Research Campaign funds a third of all cancer
research in the UK and is European leader in anticancer drug development.
This year the charity will invest more than £61m in projects undertaken
by over 1,500 doctors and scientists in universities, hospitals and research
institutes nationwide.
The University is supporting 'Bike to Work Week' which runs from
June 18 to June 22. For further details see What's On, contact Brian Ford
