High Quality Research on Show
High-quality research at the
University was recently displayed in a special showcase on campus.
The aim of the event was to
showcase leading research, stimulate awareness and encourage development
of research.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research,
Innovation and Knowledge Transfer) Professor Phil Coates said: "Bradford
has established international research groups, some world-class facilities,
and exciting emerging research areas.
"Research is the oxygen of
universities. It is vital that we build upon it, and develop strong collaborations."

The University's state-of-the-art
Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation (IPI) and EDT's Polymer Interdisciplinary
Research Centre (IRC) have been chosen as two of the first Centres of
Industrial Collaboration (CIC), recognising their status as world-class
centres of excellence.
Meanwhile, in the last Research
Assessment Exercise (RAE), the University of Bradford's Archaeological
Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Peace Studies and Biological Sciences
were rated as grade 5 research areas.
Phil said: "The showcase event
was aimed at staff and research students within the University, and successfully
captured something of the breadth and depth of our research.
"For the first time, we showed
all the extensive research and support available within the University.
Our feedback shows that people came away enthused by the research quality
and by the support they can receive for their own research."
The day included advice shops,
and practical workshops on grant bidding and electronic submission. Vice-Chancellor
Professor Chris Taylor reflected the sense of breadth and depth of the
University's research in a brief address.
Two external funding organisations
were also invited to the event. Staff feedback revealed that the visit
by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Interface
Manager David Mahoney was found to be particularly valuable by those developing
grant bids.
Yorkshire Forward's Andrew
Jones also found the event "most impressive and helpful".
