A
Different Sort of Matrix
Career
Development Services recently underwent an intensive two-day inspection
process as part of the Matrix national quality standard for guidance.
The process evaluated Career
Development Services under 10 areas and in addition to investigating resources,
procedures and policies the Assessor interviewed 54 clients, staff and
stakeholders of the service including students, graduates, academics and
employers.
Sheila O'Reilly
and the Vice-Chancellor with the Matrix Award.
The Assessor confirmed the
award of Matrix standard which is applicable for the next three years
and confers the right to use the Matrix logo on all publicity.
Head
of Service Ron Harle, said: "This award demonstrates the high quality
of services we offer through a nationally recognised accreditation. "We
are delighted with the outcome and particularly with the positive feedback
that the Assessor identified from the interviews conducted.
"Achieving Matrix is the culmination
of many months of hard work, reviewing and developing our activities and
documentation and it has involved every single member of the service,
bringing them together in a common purpose. We intend to build on this
standard and will continue to develop innovative services which meet the
needs of our clients in the most effective way, in accordance with our
mission, including individuals, academic departments and recruiters."
The detailed report on the
assessment identifies many positive features of service provision including
the positive supportive management style and the credibility of the service
within the University; the programme of academically accredited Career
and Personal Development modules; the development of ICT facilities in
the service and the award-winning 'needs-based' website; the focus on
individual clients and the helpful friendly attitude; the co-ordinated
rebranding of internal leaflets and publicity, and the recently revised
and innovative Little Book of Careers.
