All Change in Estates and Facilities

It's all change in the Department of Estates & Facilities.

Whilst work on the new-look campus is quickly moving forward, behind the scenes more changes are taking place with the launch of a new Business Plan to help in the delivery of the Estates vision.

Traditionally an area made up of disparate groups, the Department of Estates & Facilities is in the process of creating an integrated department with one outward face.

Deputy Director of Estates & Facilities Sue Robinson explained: "On the ground the same people will deliver the service but by grouping these services differently we expect to achieve greater synergy between the design and build of new facilities and their ongoing maintenance.

"We take the development of our staff seriously and not just the full-timers. For example, there's a programme of training for all cleaning supervisors which is also being rolled out to cleaning staff. This equips them with the industry-standard BICS Cleaning Proficiency Certificate. So far, 30 cleaners have gained this award."

The Department is also developing University policies to create a sustainable campus, such as a Travel Plan and energy policies to help the University reduce its levels of emissions.
