Mohamed backs Adult Learners' WeekMohamed Asif (pictured left), 25, is a first-year student on the BA Inner City Studies course in the School of Lifelong Education and Development. Mohamed said: "After finishing school, my main priority was to start earning money, so I went straight into work. After a while, I realised that I wanted a profession and to do something positive for the community. My ambition is to train as a paramedic. The course is giving me the chance to achieve this. 'To get on to the course, I had to attend an interview and write an essay on why I wanted to do it. At first, I was nervous, but I soon found out that with some effort from myself and the support of my tutors, it was not as difficult as it seemed . 'Unfortunately, there are lots of people who think they have missed their chance to succeed. I think that if you are willing, the opportunities are there. There is work involved, but it's worth it."
