INTERNATIONAL BRANDING SYMPOSIUM WENT AHEAD DESPITE TERRORIST ATTACKS A major international corporate branding symposium with the theme 'Corporate Branding: Making a Difference?' went ahead in London, recently despite troubles in the United States. Organiser of the 8th International Corporate Identity Symposium, Professor John Balmer, Professor of Corporate Identity at the School of Management, was encouraged by the response from US speakers who were committed to speaking at the event in the wake of the atrocities. Professor Balmer said: "I was enormously moved by the stoicism shown by our US colleagues. Professor Stephen Greyser, of Harvard Business School, called me shortly after the horrors in the US to say that although he was stunned and shocked by recent events he was determined to support this major symposium. "We were determined to keep the show on the road. Anyone who knows us will be aware that we're not feckless. There is a long-standing tradition of Professor Greyser introducing the speaker delivering the Lord Goold Memorial Lecture on corporate branding and identity and he was determined to maintain this tradition." This year's lecturer was Group CEO of BP, Lord Brown, who has recently embarked upon a major corporate branding exercise. Other key speakers included: Chairman of British Airways, Lord Marshall, Chief Executive of the Yorkshire Building Society, David Anderson, senior consultants from major branding consultancies such as Interbrand, Enterprise IG and the Brand Consultancy (USA) and academics from leading business schools, including Copenhagen, Loyola, in Los Angeles, and Bradford.
