Awareness of climate change, and a sense of the urgency of tackling it, is rapidly growing. Peak oil is a much less publicised but equally urgent challenge: It is the recognition that supplies of cheap oil are limited, that they will peak and then decline. What does this mean for our current ways of life, which are utterly dependent on readily available supplies of cheap oil?
Transition initiatives are currently emerging across the UK. They are trying to:

Bradford District is going through a new period of regeneration. Construction and use of the built environment contributes around half of all carbon emissions produced. We need to respond to this challenge by addressing energy efficiency, waste management and developing sustainable transport plans within our District.
Bradford Council are holding a scrutiny event so that the Council and its key stakeholders can come together and explore what is happening within the district on adapting to climate change in relation to city centre regeneration, building schools for the future and housing development.
The day will give us the opportunity to get updates on developments in these areas, share experiences, learn about best practice across the District and elsewhere and look at ways in which improvements could be made.
To register for this event, please contact Lynne Heffernan, Service Improvement Team, Bradford Metropolitan Council on 01274 437786, email: lynne.heffernan@bradford.gov.uk before 15th November.
