Exciting Future Developments

The University is investing in the city campus site, which will see major developments. Since the development of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation with its innovative sustainable features, the University has completed construction of a new Institute of Cancer Therapeutics and the Norcroft Centre.

In addition, the University has refurbished and cladded its main Richmond Building and created a new front entrance incorporating a glazed Atrium, as well as many other improvements across campus.

More recent improvements to the campus include 'Unique: Fitness and Lifestyle', the superb facility on the city campus which cost £5m. This newly refurbished fitness centre has a 25-metre heated swimming pool, climbing wall, and a new gym and studios with the very latest in fitness equipment.

A £7million scheme is rejuvenating the Communal Building including the installation of a transluscent roof to enclose the existing courtyards and create additional space, which will be home again to the Students' Union and its facilities. The plan is transforming this area into a 'Learning Atrium', providing a variety of different spaces ranging from active social areas for groups to silent study areas for individuals in the JB Priestley Library.

Laboratories, study areas, computer clusters and other facilities are constantly developed to ensure the quality of your environment. There are over 80 wireless base stations on campus, with free internet access throughout, and a range of new teaching technologies in action including computer-aided assessment and podcasting.

There's also the new build at the School of Management which melds the best of historic Victorian and modern architecture, and provides new, state-of-the-art learning resources. And in 2011 the School of Health will be moving to brand new facilities on the city campus.
