Welcome message from the Dean of the School

Welcome,

I am delighted to welcome you to the website of the School of Social and International Studies at the University of Bradford. Our mission is to provide a research informed education environment that embraces a commitment to excellence in teaching and an applied contribution to social and economic issues at local, regional, national and international levels. The School comprises a number of Departments, Centres and Units that are involved with exciting inter-disciplinary research projects and which offer a wide range of courses at graduate and postgraduate levels. An attractive aspect of the teaching provision is that students are able to study modules from any area of the School as part of their degree programme.

Departments within the School have been rated internationally excellent in research and teaching under various quality assurance processes and programmes such as Social Work and Psychology have external accreditation from professional bodies. The School has a student body of over 1500; about a quarter of which are international students from all over the world. The School has a particular focus on policy issues through research, teaching and consultancy in subjects such as international peace and conflict resolution, social work and social policy, international development, economics, languages and Europe. We are also committed to assisting in delivering the University’s mission to support the local community and the School is actively engaged in this process through various practical initiatives such as the Programme for a Peaceful City.

If you find our activities interesting, I encourage you to continue to explore our pages.
