Facilities in the School of Social and International Studies

The School of Social and International Studies aims to make study as hassle free as possible by providing facilities for our students (extra to the many great University facilities). We offer resources such as computer suites, postgraduate work areas, dedicated specialist language rooms and informal meeting spaces.

Postgraduate Work Rooms

We have a dedicated 24-hour Postgraduate work area situated in the centre of campus with over 40 work stations, each including a computer and lockable filing cabinet. The space is split across two main rooms which have a modern feel and a work orientated atmosphere.

The area also offers connections to RoamNet, allowing students and staff to connect their own mobile computer (e.g. laptop) to the University network and the internet. RoamNet supports wireless (WiFi) and wired connections.

Specialist Language Facilities

The School has newly refurbished facilities situated next to the department of Languages and European Studies in the Richmond building, the main building of the University.

The dedicated rooms include digital audio and video teaching equipment, a conference interpreting suite, access to professional recording equipment, a multimedia resources centre, private study and research areas. See the study facilities in Languages and European Studies.

Informal Meeting Spaces

SSH student meeting room. The school has two informal meeting spaces for students situated in the Pemberton and Richmond buildings. To help promote a sense of community across the School these areas provide a place for students to meet for a chat, to work on group projects or to discuss the latest assignments.

Both areas have a relaxed atmosphere enhanced by comfortable furniture. They also offer wireless (WiFi) connections to RoamNet, this means students and staff can connect a portable computer to the University network enabling them to check email or research assignments on the internet.
