Dr Mark Baimbridge
Senior Lecturer

Economics:

My main research area is the Political economy of European integration which has encompassed the majority of key developments in this area since the late 1980s, together with the Analysis of contemporary labour markets. My current and future research is focused around four principal themes:

  • Monetary integration (optimum currency area theory, TEU convergence criteria, central bank independence, enlargement)
  • UK-EU relationship (membership cost-benefit assessment, alternative forms of membership, EMU membership, referendums)
  • Political integration (European Parliamentary elections, referendums on European integration)
  • Analysis of contemporary labour markets (labour market flexibility, foreign direct investment, employment-related legislation in relation to trades unions)
